2nd November 2014
Windsurfing: The Ray-Southend
Wind Direction: ssw
Wind Stength: 15/20
Surf / Sea State: flat
Air Temperature: 14
Sea Temperature:
Weather: cloudy and wet
Max Speed: 29.25 (knots - unless stated otherwise)
Distance Covered: 21 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)

It was always going to be an iffy call to go to Southend with the wind forecast to drop by mid-day but I have alot of bumpy Felixstowe and wanted ago on some flat water so headed to Southend at 7:15. Anthony Todd was already there but Ian decided against it. The tide was high but dropping but there was little wind on the prom :( after a little humming and haring we decided to rig big and get a sail. I went for 7.8 on the 133 as I would have really struggled on the 6.4 and 80lt. Trouble with big kit here is you have to get it out to the Ray - there was not quite enough water left to sail out but sailed a little way and walked the rest. I made it to the first channel and sailed out into the Ray being careful not to run aground. My plan for today was to try for a mile so beat right to the end which took ages !!! My first run was aborted early as not enough wind even though I peaked at 29kts. So I beat back and tried again and had a nice run back to the corner - sadly way under powdered but managed a 26 kt mile. I then played on the east course for awhile - the fastest being the return back to the corner. The wind seemed to have filled in a little so I went for another long beat and went for another mile getting my best of the year of 27.11, peaking at 29.25 kts - not bad on big kit in gusty light winds ! I was then going to try to improve my ave. and hope for 30 kts but my spreader bar snapped right by the channel back so I then had no choice but to call it a day and then did the long killer walk back as the heavens opened and it tipped it down !!! There were about 15 kites out and nearly as many windsurfers but sadly not windy enough :(
